Frosty the Snowman

This winter was brutal.  There's no doubt about it.  Poor D spent more time inside than ever before.  But one day in February, it was all of the sudden 40 degrees and sunny, so we took the opportunity to introduce D to our friend the snow.

She LOVED the snow.  Touching it, brushing it off her mittens, making snowballs and most of all, building our little friend, Snowman.  Firsts are the best!

We giggled that D would frequently walk to the front window of the house to look at Snowman, and tried to explain that snow melts...she learned quickly that Snowman would not be a permanent fixture in her life but handled it pretty well despite the disappointment!

Grandma and Grandpa brought their sled from home to give D a ride around the block after the next snowstorm.  She giggled the entire way - this kid loves the outdoors!

I love you!

It has amazed me how the last two years of being an auntie have sent me head over heels into a world of crafting, knitting, creating, taking photos, and doing all sorts of other handicrafty kinds of things that I never really did before.

One of my favorite examples is this card I made for Miss D for Valentine's Day last year.

At the time, Peek-A-Boo was her favorite game to play with anyone, so I decided to make her a Peek-A-Boo card.  She has it in a drawer in her room (still) and looks at it from time to time.

When I gave it to her, she was just starting to talk (coherently) and this propelled her into the world of proclaiming, "I love you!" whenever she was so inspired.  Nothing makes an auntie melt more than hearing little one say, "I love you, Auntie!"

I took these selfie pics using my MacBook Pro, printed them at Walgreens and then attached them to two blank greeting cards I had gotten from Michaels and taped together like an accordion.

(Side note: I always have Michaels' cards on hand and use them for everything - they have cute chevron, polka dot and striped cards that are blank on the inside and can be used for just about anything.  Why pay $6 for a single card when you can make a cuter one for less than $1?!)

Anyway, when Miss D opened the card, my Peek-A-Boo message unfolded for her, and I wrote a little message to her on the last (4th) page.

It's a keeper.
